Yarl’s Wood Befrienders to become Beyond Detention

To mark our twentieth anniversary, we are changing our name to Beyond Detention and launching a new website on 14 January 2022.
The website has been developed in consultation with people with lived experience of immigration detention. The new colours and origami bird logo were chosen to reflect the warmth, compassion, hope and practical help that the charity’s staff and volunteers bring to people both in detention and after release.
In the 20 years of the charity’s existence, origami has been a constant feature. The office is adorned with many beautiful paper gifts – swans, bowls, flowers – crafted by those held indefinitely within the walls of Yarl’s Wood IRC, symbols of both solidarity and transience.
Please help us in the run up to our launch day of 14 January by raising awareness with an expression of solidarity on social media for those navigating our hostile immigration system. We ask you to create an origami bird of your own including a personal message of support. Please:
