Would you like to help determine the direction of the charity and support its staff? If so, please consider joining the Board. We are keen to hear from those who have expertise in the following areas:
• law (especially immigration and human rights)
• digital technology
• strategic planning and business management
Those with personal experience of detention are particularly welcome.
The Board is tasked by the Charity Commission with overseeing the strategic direction of Yarl’s Wood Befrienders. For example, it has worked closely with staff to review the impact of the pandemic on our work and to agree alternative ways of befriending. It is also our duty to ensure that the Charity works within its financial means and that both staff and volunteers are managed and cared for.
In normal times the Board meets 4 or 5 times a year at mutually convenient days/times, but the ever-changing situation at Yarl’s Wood, as well as the changing needs of detainees in the community, has resulted in Trustees having more frequent email contact and Zoom meetings.
If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org by 6 November 2020 stating briefly what you could bring to the role.
