All fun and games at Equality & Diversity Day

Equality and Diversity Day was marked at Yarl's Wood IRC on Friday 29th June, and Ali, Shirley and Befriender, Sidney proudly staffed our tombola stall on the day.

The prizes offered, including quiz books, colouring books and notebooks (all staples at our Drop in sessions at the centre!) proved a popular attraction and we had a steady flow of visitors to our stall. We 'competed' well with the nail-painting and hand-painting offered by other stalls! Naomi, the Welfare Officer organising the day had arranged a variety of food from samosas to spring rolls and welcome ice-creams as temperatures soared in the Sports Hall.

Entertainment included a troupe of Bollywood dancers that Sidney felt had been classically trained as their posture was exquisite and would be good enough to impress 'Strictly' judges!

Ali, Sidney and Shirley had time to mingle with other 'stall-holders' including: Pastor Lonnie, UKGLIG (UK Gay, Lesbian, Immigration Group) the 'Voices' project at the Higgins Bedford, British Red Cross (who are keen to promote their International Family Tracing project), Hibiscus and Kaleidoscope, the latter two being charities permanently located at the Centre.

We're looking forward to the Yarl's Wood IRC Summer Fete on 27th July!
