IMB release Yarl's Wood Annual Report

Yarl’s Wood IMB reports on the dramatic increase in the number of detainees being sectioned and calls for indeterminate and unnecessary detention to be ended.

The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) for Yarl’s Wood IRC publishes its annual report for 2017 today.

The IMB’s main concern is the increase in the number of detainees being sectioned during the year which rose from 2 in 2016 to 14 in 2017. It recommends the imposition of a time-limit for immigration detention and calls on the Minister to ensure that the initial decision to detain is more robust, to avoid lengthy and apparently unnecessary periods of detention, and to assess more effectively the effect of detention on the mental health of potential detainees.

The full report is published on www.imb.org.uk/reports/
